Internet in the White Mountains
My mother and step father have been anguishing for over a decade with Frontier DSL at their cabin home in the White Mountains of Arizona. On a good day internet speeds ranged between 3-4 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up, but with high latency and frequent disconnects. To add insult to injury Frontier charges a monthly rate equal to full fiber connections in the same area. Unfortunately their property is located in the county and only Frontier provides service to their neighborhood.
We had looked into using T-Mobile and Verizon cellular internet for years, but it wasn't available at the time. I had looked into Starlink for them a few times but the cost seemed prohibitive once you consider the hardware, installation and the monthly rate. Fast forward to November 2024 and everyone who visits their home was complaining about not being able to do much of anything on Frontier DSL. I was able to convince my mother to let me coordinate the effort to help alleviate some of the stress in determining which hardware we should buy and who we should have install it.
